Giving real opportunities (GRO)
For parents to take up opportunities to learn and develop, all of their needs must be considered. Most parents face difficulties such as childcare, English being their second language, benefits issues, low income, family commitments, lack of confidence.
Supporting parents as individuals
The Parent House offers friendly, supportive, learner-led teaching with a support worker for nearly every course. Learners discuss their individual needs at the start of a course and support is given as the course ends to discuss what to do next.
Listening to what parents want
Each term, parents are asked what they liked or disliked about each course and what courses or events they would like to see in the future. Each person who has left their details is contacted if that course is run, or we hear of one locally. A steering group of parents meets regularly to discuss services at The Parent House.
Celebrating achievement
At the end of each term, we have a breakfast morning to deliver certificates and celebrate success. Everyone is welcome and staff cook breakfast. Each July, the Open Day brings people together to celebrate and have fun.
